If an in-patient hospital wants to assess pharmacy technician candidates who work at their organization, what is the process and what requirements must be met?
Hospital sites that wish to assess their own employees must complete required steps and put safeguards in place. These requirements are designed to minimize potential bias while supporting access to PACE in hospital settings.
Requirements include:
1. Bias and conflict of interest mitigation plan
Upon application, potential assessors must submit a plan outlining how they will mitigate bias and manage conflicts of interest when assessing individuals who work at their organization.
- This plan is completed as part of the assessor application (or an abbreviated version for current assessors).
- The plan (sections E and F of the hospital assessor application form) must be developed in collaboration with hospital site management. The last page of the application form includes guidance and examples to help you develop your plan.
- OCP staff will review each plan and may request additional information before approval.
2. Attestation
Assessors must complete an attestation confirming their understanding of expectations:
- After completing assessor training
- At re-appointment every three years (if applicable)
Assessors must complete this attestation after their bias and conflict of interest mitigation plan (see step 1 above) is approved and they have attended the assessor training workshop.
3. Declaration of relationships
Both candidates and assessors must disclose any existing relationships during the PACE candidate application process, including if they work at the same site.
- Each declaration will be reviewed by a College registration advisor on a case-by-case basis
- Approval will depend on whether appropriate safeguards (e.g., mitigation plan and attestation) are in place.
