OCP Board accepts governance review report, commits to next steps
September 18, 2025At its September 15, 2025, meeting, the Board was presented with the final report of a governance review conducted by the Institute on Governance (IOG), an independent third-party governance consultant. IOG was commissioned last year to consider the relationship between the College’s Board of Directors and the College’s Registrar and CEO from a legislative and best practices perspective, and to include recommendations that will inform and enhance the Board in its duty to manage and administer the College’s affairs, including its duty to provide the College with its overall policy and strategic direction and the duty to regulate the profession of pharmacy and carry out its statutory objects in the public interest.
The Board accepted the report, which highlights a number of recommendations under four primary themes: clarifying roles and decision-making boundaries; strengthening oversight and evaluation; enhancing Board culture and governance capacity; and improving transparency and accountability.
Following IOG’s presentation, the Board approved a motion to direct the Governance Committee to oversee implementation of recommendations in the final report.
“The OCP Board of Directors is firmly committed to protecting the public interest and ensuring that we are grounded in effective governance principles and processes that guide transparent and responsible decision making,” says Doug Brown, OCP Board Chair. “We take our governance role seriously and welcome the thorough review and analysis presented in the IOG’s report. The Board is united in its focus on improving our governance practices and we look forward to promoting a strong culture that respects the diverse perspectives and roles of those charged with the responsibility to govern the College’s affairs with integrity. We wish to extend our thanks to IOG, the Governance Review Committee and everyone who contributed their thoughtful insights and perspectives throughout this review.”
We are committed to reporting regularly on our progress, beginning with our December 2025 meeting. A briefing note and the full Governance Review report is available in the September Board materials package, starting on page 56.
