In December 2020, the Ontario Ministry of Health released the inaugural College Performance Measurement Framework (CPMF) which will, for the first time in Ontario, further strengthen the accountability and oversight of Ontario’s health regulatory colleges by providing information that is transparent, consistent and aligned across all colleges on their performance in serving the public’s interest.
The CPMF consists of seven domains: Governance, Resources, System Partners, Information Management, Regulatory Policies, Suitability to Practice, and Measurement, Reporting and Improvement. Within each domain, specific components such as standards, measures, evidence and planned improvement activities set out expectations and requirements for the colleges to include/respond to in their submitted reports to the Ministry.
Effective March 31, 2021, all colleges are required to make submissions to the Ministry using the CPMF reporting tool and to post their submitted reports on their public websites.
Published CPMF reports will ultimately encourage a better understanding of the activities of all health regulatory colleges in the province and promote improvement at a system level. Colleges will complete this report annually, noting any progress on areas identified for improvement or adding new or updated information required by the Ministry, which will post a summary of submitted CPMF reports online.
The Ontario College of Pharmacists is pleased to have been amongst a group of regulators actively engaged in the development of the CPMF, which reinforces OCP’s approach to fulfilling its mandate through the collection, analysis and transparent reporting of data and information to continually improve patient outcomes and our performance as an accountable health regulator.
